Filming office (BAT)

The role of the Bureau d'accueil des tournages, opened by the City of Montpellier in 2010, is to encourage and facilitate the hosting of productions. The Bureau d'accueil des tournages has welcomed and coordinated more than 1,000 shoots.

It is part of a strong territorial dynamic, supported by the Occitanie Region and the Occitanie Films association, which have been working since 2004 to develop audiovisual productions (feature films, shorts, TV films and documentaries).

Series and TV movies

Coastline bordered by ponds, hinterland of vineyards and garrigues, charm of ancient villages, contemporary architectural gestures and signatures... There's plenty to attract TV series and movies.

Some examples of filming: Tandem since December 2015, L'éclipse from September to November 2023, Panda from April to July 2023....

Feature films

Also, many cameras came to Montpellier to shoot French or foreign feature films: Toutes pour une by Houda Benyamina (May 2023), Le frère by Bachir Bensaddek (October 2022), Balle perdue 2 by Guillaume Pierret (fall 2021), Les complices by Cécilia Rouaud (August and September 2021)....

Short films

Montpellier attracts both established and up-and-coming filmmakers because it offers a complementary range of disciplines and expertise. For this reason, many short films have been shot here: Enfances d'Elias by Mandana Ferdos (January 2024), Vodka Fanta by Élisabeth Silveiro (February 2023), Là où les mots sont by Rebecca Gallon and Yassine Aïssaoui (August 2023)....

Documentaries

Documentary production has historically thrived in the Montpellier area. And demand continues to flourish with the boost provided by the cultural and creative industries support fund.

A few examples: Corps et âme by Pierre Combroux (November 6, 2020), Pierre Soulages by Stéphane Berthomieux (March 15, 2017), Les mondes intérieurs by Yann Sinic (January 2012)...

Video clips

Various music videos were shot in Montpellier: Par ici l'homme, Julien Fortier at Hôtel de Ville (January 2023); Crystal eyes, Enzo Music - On a tree session (February and March 2023); La mer, La grande Sophie at Pilou beach (May 2022)....

Commercials and TV shows

An open-air studio, the Montpellier area regularly sees the cameras of production companies from all over France land: Invitation au voyage in May 2020, Rinspeed from November 18 to 25, 2017, and Rayman (Nintendo Switch) from August 23 to 25, 2017.

The advantages of the film location office

  • A single point of contact for technical preparations during shoots;
  • Simplified administrative procedures thanks to the introduction of a single application file for filming authorization.
  • Accompaniment for location scouts and help in organizing castings.
  • A conditional exemption from the public domain occupation fee has been introduced. In return, an agreement will be signed between productions and the city to promote the services rendered by the city (filming visit, mention in the credits, preview....).

Why host film shoots here?

Hosting film shoots in a town generates numerous spin-offs:

  • Employment support: employment of intermittent technicians / extras, professional outlets for young people in schools;
  • Economic: service providers, hotel nights, catering (between €50 and €150,000 spent per week);
  • Tourism: enhancement of the town's heritage, appeal, fan visits;
  • Cultural: showcasing local talent and artists, hosting famous directors and actors, cultural actions and image education, casting, social ties.
