Save energy
For several years now, Montpellier Méditerranée Métropole has been pursuing a policy of ecological transition and solidarity in the fight against climate change, and has become a partner of EcoWatt.
This electricity system monitoring system, set up by RTE - the French electricity transmission network operator with ADEME - qualifies French consumption levels in real time. The Monecowatt website provides information on the best practices to adopt at home and at work. "Vigilance coupure" sms alerts are sometimes sent out when consumption is too high.
- As an EcoWatt partner, the Metropole of Montpellier is carrying out several actions to take part in the deployment of good gestures:
- As a manager of public facilities, it is reducing the impact of public lighting, optimizing the use of heating in public buildings and reducing its peak consumption between 6pm and 8pm.
- As a public player, the Metropole conducts awareness-raising initiatives aimed at young people to help them consume electricity more efficiently, by intervening in schools, but also with businesses and shops. It encourages the general public to get involved by giving visibility to the EcoWatt scheme and inviting citizens to register here. As an employer, the Montpellier Metropole encourages its employees to sign up to the scheme, communicates and promotes the EcoWatt scheme internally using available media, and raises awareness of eco-gestures in the workplace.
Sobriety and gas safety
Energy poverty is a major issue in the region. That's why Montpellier Méditerranée Métropole, GRDF and FACE Hérault launched an operation carried out by young people aged 16 to 25 as part of a civic service program: the Civigaz scheme, which ran from December 2023 to September 2024.
This scheme raised awareness among 3,000 households between the Celleneuve, Cévennes and Mosson districts. Civic service volunteers and a mediator were able to emphasize energy sobriety, before some forty collective animations completed this approach.
