Fighting invasive species
By definition, the introduction by man (deliberate or accidental) of an invasive alien species (animal or plant) threatens ecosystems, habitats or native species, with negative ecological, economic and health consequences.
The development of these species represents one of the five major causes of biodiversity erosion and species extinction. They generally have a high reproductive potential, in an environment that does not always have predators to regulate their development. Thus, their management is necessary: it involves preventive methods, mainly mechanical control by uprooting.
The national botanical conservatories draw up regional lists of invasive alien plants on regional territories.
INVMED-Flore is a platform for information, resources and exchanges on invasive alien plant species (from the Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur, Occitanie and Corsica regions), run by the Conservatoires botaniques nationaux méditerranéen et de Corse.
It is therefore important to stop planting these species and limit their development in natural environments.
The Invasive Alien Species Resource Center
The Invasive Alien Species Resource Center, coordinated by the IUCN French Committee and the French Office for Biodiversity, presents on its platform a wealth of feedback on the management of invasive alien species and on control methodologies to limit the development of these species.
