Getting around with a disability

Parking spaces reserved for PRMs

The City of Montpellier is increasing the number of parking spaces reserved for disabled people. These spaces can be easily geolocated using TaM's M'Ticket application:

The creation of PMR spaces by the City is done at the request of disabled people who live nearby, upon presentation of proof.

On-street parking

Register your vehicle from the M'Ticket app

  • Select "Park"
  • Press the "Register a new vehicle"
  • Check the "Véhicule PMR"
  • Follow the instructions

If the M'Ticket TaM app does not offer the "Véhicule PMR" box, TaM invites you to update or reinstall it.

Once you subscribe, you benefit from free on-street parking for 3 years, with no further steps to take.

Rights and procedures for accompanying persons

The accompanying person of a person with reduced mobility benefits from free on-street parking in Montpellier, under certain conditions:

  • physically accompany the person with reduced mobility,
  • park the vehicle of the person with reduced mobility previously registered with TaM OR declare the vehicle used as part of the accompaniment from the M'Ticket TaM app or at the pay and display machine.
  • Apply the CES or CMI card behind the windshield each time you park

Validity period for free parking

The validity period depends on the steps you have taken to declare your vehicle:

  • 3 years if you have registered your vehicle from the site tam-voyages.com or in Espace Mobilité TaM,
  • 24h maximum on the same space if you've registered your vehicle at the time clock or from the M'Ticket TaM app.

CMI / CES card

It is compulsory to affix your CMI or CES card behind the windscreen of the declared vehicle, including when the vehicle used belongs to the accompanying person.

Public transport

The majority of buses and tramway trains are accessible to all forms of disability. Stations have also been adapted for the comfort of wheelchair users and the visually impaired.

  • Buses: the bus network comprises 17 lines and over 110 fully accessible vehicles. Of the 741 stops, 85% are fully accessible.
  • Tramway: the trams and their stops are fully accessible.
  • Bustram: the bustram network will make it possible to serve Montpellier and the cities of the metropolis more quickly via reserved lanes.

The GIHP

The GIHP is a specialized transport service with 44 vehicles. It brings together all disabled people around one objective: integration into society, in an ordinary living environment.

The GIHP also provides school transport for disabled children, a total of 291 children in 2023, including 188 Montpellier residents and 103 children in the rest of the Metropole.

The service is available to PRMs, at their request, from 6 a.m. to 1 a.m. the following morning, 7 days a week.

It includes door-to-door accompaniment, or even, from within the place of departure to within the place of arrival, depending on the beneficiaries' actual needs. It is aimed at members with a disability that prevents them from using public transport to the desired origin-destination.
