Schools, after-school care and leisure activities

Through its 113 public elementary school and 88 school canteens, Montpellier welcomes more than 21,300 children aged 3 to 11 every day!

Planning a school day

Legend:

  • *TAAC: after-school care for kindergarten children

  • Blue: school activities, under the responsibility of the French Ministry of Education

Please note: some schools have special timetables (8:45am-12pm / 2pm-4:45pm). Ask your school for details.

Extracurricular activities

During extracurricular time, supervised by the town's qualified activity leaders, teachers and associations, a variety of activities are offered to children, in line with the territory educational project.

With this educational project, some of the city's schools are offering to discover ancient civilizations, an introduction to ancient languages (Latin and Greek) or a fun module introducing coding and robotics.

Program

  • Morning reception - Paying without reservation

From 7:45 am, children are welcomed by activity leaders and ATSEMs and take part in quiet activities.

  • Temps méridien - Payant - Réservation préalable sous peine de majoration

This is mealtime and free time during which manual, sporting, cultural and play activities are offered.

  • After-school time - Free - Prior booking

    • Kindergarten: after-school care time (TAAC): children are collected from classrooms by ATSEMs. A snack time is organized, then activities are offered until 5:30 or 5:45 pm
    • Elementary: free, secular, public tutoring :
      • Directed studies: supervised by teachers. 51 out of 67 elementary schools are mobilized thanks to volunteer teachers.
      • Études surveillées (supervised studies): provided by the town's animators.
  • Evening care - Paid without reservation

From 5:30pm, quiet activities are offered to children in the playground or activity room to bring the school day to a close.

The 2024 budget for educational success amounts to 113 million euros, compared with 104.6 million euros in 2023 (+8%).
