Montpellier danse
Every year from October to March, Montpellier moves to the rhythm of dance performances at the Montpellier Danse festival. These performances are in collaboration with the Metropole's theaters such as the Opéra Orchestre National de Montpellier, CDN de Montpellier, l'ICI -CCN / Centre chorégraphique National de Montpellier, Théâtre la Vignette, Théâtre Jean Vilar, etc.
L'Agora, cité internationale de la danse, is also taking advantage of the opportunity to come alive with several events around the art of choreography. Dance workshops, lectures and screenings are open to the public, most of them free of charge.
Training begins at an early age with the Éveil cycle at the Cité des arts/ Conservatoire à Rayonnement Régional, which provides initial and pre-professional training for young artists in classical, contemporary and jazz dance.
Young dancers then have the opportunity to become professional dancers on our territory via the ESPSE DANSE school, which provides training for the professions of dance performer and teacher, or with the Centre Artistique En Mouvance, which has two specific "Stage" and "Creation & Repertoire" courses. This center also offers preparation for dance competitions, entry to professional training, higher conservatories.
The Centre National Chorégraphique - ICI CCN offers artists - choreographers, performers - auteur-e-s the only Master's degree in France and internationally recognized , in choreographic studies in partnership with Université Paul-Valéry.
This wide-ranging training program fosters the creation and establishment of dance companies on our territory, around a hundred of which conceive and present their choreographic works on the stages of our theaters or in the public space.
Finally, in addition to being presented in a network of theaters throughout the city and metropolis, Montpellier is strongly associated with the Montpellier Danse international festival, which has been programming the excellence of contemporary dance creation since 1981.
