Why sort my biowaste?
Faced with climate change and the significant increase in the cost of household waste treatment, the Metropole is pursuing its ambitious Zero Waste strategy initiated in September 2020 and supported by the Anti-Waste for a Circular Economy (AGEC) law.
Recovering bio-waste (peelings, meal leftovers, coffee grounds...)is one of the essential solutions for reducing our impact on the environment as well as keeping expenses under control.
The benefits of sorting your biowaste:
- Reduce your grey garbage can by 30%,
- Produce compost to nourish the soil,
- Reduce greenhouse gases (less collection, less travel, less processing).
More than 80% of plate leftovers are water.
Refuse collection points (PAV)

Since July 2023, door-to-door collection of the orange bin is gradually giving way to collection by Points d'Apport volontaire throughout the Métropole.
These new devices installed near your home allow you to drop off ALL your food scraps (including meat with bones, fish, cheese...).

Take your biowaste to the PAV
Every resident has received a new openwork biowaste container in which to deposit their biowaste, before taking it to the PAV located near their home.
- The biowaste container is open on all sides for better aeration and rapid drying of the biowaste.
- Do not use plastic bags (even biodegradable ones) as they contain fine plastic particles that do not meet biowaste recovery standards.
- Use the krafts bags supplied with the bioseau (reusable) or those provided in shops if you run out.
Aid for the purchase of an individual composter

The composter in individual housing
For residents with a garden, the Métropole provides free individual composters. A single model is offered: H 100cm x L 82cm x l 82cm (i.e. just under 1m3). These composters produce a natural fertilizer from dry green waste, mixed with kitchen waste.
You can put in all your peelings and meal scraps except meat and fish. Each composter reduces the waste processed by the Metropole by more than 50 kg/year/inhabitant.
Wood composter
Benefit from financial assistance for the purchase of a wood composter. The Metropole will reimburse you up to a maximum of €40.
Lombri-composter
Benefit from financial aid for the purchase of a lombri-composter, to be installed indoors. The Métropole will reimburse you up to a maximum of 50€.
Hens
The Métropole will also help you financially with the purchase of hens, up to a maximum of 10€/animal. In particular, they are an ideal solution for complementing the action of a composter, by eating, for example, meat whose presence is not recommended in the composter.
Composters for collective housing

You can put in all your peelings and leftovers except meat and fish.
2 composting methods:
- Neighborhood composters progressively installed in the 31 communes of the Metropole
- Residence composters: if your residence has a green space, ask for your bin at 0 800 88 11 77 or apply online
